New Photo portfolio has dropped! 100 portraits from the 1990s
ROM ȘI ROMÂN, 100 portraits of Romanians from the 1990s.
We’ve been working on these colorful portraits for a long, long time! So long, in fact, that the portraits have become historic. Rom și Român is a beautiful hardcover book of 100 full page images from the days of analog photography. 40% of them are from color film and the other 60 from black & white film which has been meticulously colorized. The subjects of these portraits are ordinary people, at the local vegetable market, working in street repair and construction, going about their business. They date from the period just after the fall of a particularly brutal dictatorship, headed by the infamous Nicolae Ceaușescu, and they thus present a moment in time when the old world order had stopped and the new order was just forming.
Romania is today a fairly modern, progressing country, firmly settled within the European Community, a very different place than the uncertain, struggling but hopeful country you see in these photographs. Let’s not forget all of the great progress that has happened in the world in the past few decades. This portfolio of over 100 faces with their openness to the future and welcoming attitudes will lift the spirits of even the most die-hard pessimists.
The book will soon be available here on this website, but for the present, it is available at Amazon dot com. Click on the photo above or right here to go to the Amazon page. You can also go to Amazon and search for Rom si Roman (without the diacriticals) and it will come up.
ROM ȘI ROMÂN! means Roma and Romanian, and is pronounced (for English speakers) Rome shee RoMUN.
